Re: Ammo storage
Went down to the local surplus store and found a couple cans... I was lookin' at the "50's" then noticed what appeared to be a "30" that said 7.62 on the side... prolly not our 7.62 but close enough for my purposes... I managed to shoehorn 17 of the paper packs into the little ca...

Re: Ammo storage
Desiccant... hadn't thought about that...
I've got an old hearing aid dryer that could probably suck the Titanic dry... if given enough time...
I think I'll throw that in there...
Thanks for the feedback, guys...

Ammo storage
Just received two crates of 7.62x54R... three of the spam cans are still sealed (two of 'em are still in their crate)... So, the one can of 440... what's the preferred method of storing for the 'short term'? Keep 'em in their 20 round paper wrappers... placed in an ammo can? Seems the paper would at...

Re: Sometimes... You just get lucky..
I'm new at this... I (maybe) passed up a 'red number' rifle for the hex I bought... I thought maybe the previous owner had colored in the engraving on the receiver... no big deal... I saw another with white "engraving"...

Re: fired ammo--bolt stuck
Thanks guys... just ordered an Okie no-go gauge... ![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
Should I be shopping for a left-hand, orange polka-dot glove while waiting for the shipment to arrive?![roll eyes ](./images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

Re: fired ammo--bolt stuck
Ok... read about the gauges... makes sense... now... do I get all three... The field, go and the no-go to make sure things are safe? I looked at a YouTube video about "7.62x54R headspace gauge", the poster said "No-go stops the bolt, the gun is safe to fire..." he didn't say anyt...

Re: fired ammo--bolt stuck
I guess I wasn't completely correct when I said the bolt stuck... The bolt would move, but only between the firing position and that two o'clock position... it wasn't 'sticky'... it would move freely between those two positions... and come to an abrupt halt at two o'clock... as though something was ...

fired ammo--bolt stuck
Just got my de-gooed Mosin back together... I had a couple previously fired surplus casings hangin' around the house... so I put one in the chamber as a 'test'... pulled the trigger and all was fine... ...went to pull back the bolt and it was stuck with the bolt arm aiming roughly at the two o'clock...

Oil cans
Just got back from Gander Mountain with my first Mosin... the young-un behind the counter disappeared into the back room and came back with several miscellaneous bits and pieces... most of which I'm still scratchin' my head over... Anyway, he set two oil cans on the counter... one is the typical 'ro...

Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Just got back from Gander Mountain with my first Mosin... I called 'em before I went over to see what they had in stock, the counter guy said, "Looks to be 12-15 of 'em out there..." So, off I went... The second one I picked up, I bought... it's a 'Hex'... (is that the correct term here?) ...
