Re: M91/38 Cossack Marked

I like that one a lot. The antique ones are my favorites and this one was not already in the database.

I know about a lot of 91/38s that have entered the market in the last two years so listings and sales should be popping up on the big auction site soon, if not already.

Re: Why the Mosin Nagant?

I became interested in Soviet weaponry in USAF intelligence school in 1968. It continued a bit until I found an AK at a local gun shop and bought it in 2008. Digging around, I found Mosins were available so I pick up a M44 at a gun show for $95 after I let my son get the last M44 at another table fo...

My personal opinion is the price would be far above $100 now, unless you could find one at a shop or show in a parts bin.

Re: Sestroryetsk 91/38 - Value?

Sales I have seen for Sestroryetsk 91/38 over the last 10 years have varied widely. One sold for $4,000 but I don't know if the seller ever got the money. The lowest sold for $500 with others $850, and $1,700. The Sestroryetsks seems to fetch the highest prices (omitting the 1 Remington and 1 Westin...

Re: Egyptian Rolling Block

I did a bit of research and started reloading for mine about 10 years ago. It was fun to shoot with black powder and not that hard to clean afterwards.

I got an average of 1300 fps with cast 400g bullets and accuracy was OK on paper plates at 100 yards.

Re: 1931 Izhevsk mosin with imperial eagle?

I bought a 1945 M44 years ago and still have it. It is on a 1928 hex receiver.
Finns recycled lot of hexes. I only have two M39s, both are 1946 and both are on hex receivers. One is dated 1897 and one is 1905.

Re: 1917 Remington Finnish Capture question about stock

Did he tell you he sanded the finish or does it just look that way? Often you can see if it has been sanded by looking carefully at the fit of the metal parts on the stock. But I would even defer on that to folks more expert than me.

Re: What's the safest way to clean a Finn stock

I put mine in the sun and then wipe down with paper towels. Others have warmed theirs by putting in a black garbage bag and placing on the dash.

Either way, that's all you should do.

Re: 1897 info

I think M91 Mosins are beautiful and the Sestroryetsk logo is the best of all, artistically. The often have a somewhat higher value than other arsenals. You are quite lucky to be the beneficiary.

Please note the quote by bunkysdad about maintaining it's historical accuracy by keeping it as is.

One Remington 91/38 has been reliably reported. It would have the 91/38 style and markings. It would also be very valuable.

I'm having trouble with the placing of my attachments so I'll try another way. Here are three night shots. Kit .50 Flintlock. The pan flashes brighter than the barrel. The photo keeps doubling? Re: M1895 Nagant Revolvers

Nagants were designed for smokeless powder but shortages of powder in WW1 led to many using black powder because it was available. I found that I could get amazing results and power. I did some testing with BP a few years ago, using cast lead 102g bullets. I was able to get 1250 fps using a full cas...
