Found the pics...very cool. I have a 53 and it sure looks like it went through a war too, but it's my favorite.

Non-corrosive to clean barrel?
Just wanted to throw this out to those of you that know much more about Mosin rifles than I to see if it has any validity... I usually shoot surplus ammo in my Chinese 53 which is corrosive. I was wondering if, after shooting say 20 rounds of this ammo, I ended my range session by shooting 2-3 round...

Re: Can I damage my barrel if I shoot too many rounds?
Thanks for all of the replies. I took the rifle to an indoor range today (shooting brass/lead) just 2 days after shooting the 40 consecutive rounds. I could not believe how smoothly the bolt works now!!! Closing the bolt was really never an issue, but opening it after a round had been fired required...

Re: Can I damage my barrel if I shoot too many rounds?
Thanks for the reply. I figured 40 rounds was probably nothing compared to what the gun was put through in training or during war. The wood stock was not hot, but I know to never get close to the barrel again after 25-30 rounds :-0

Re: Mosin prices leveling out?
We have a new Woodbury Outfitters store opening south of Columbus, Ohio this weekend and they are advertising that they have 100 M44 (or Chinese 53) for $129. I paid $139 for mine back in February from a LGS. If they ever get back to being under $100 I'd probably pick up another one...just for a bac...

Can I damage my barrel if I shoot too many rounds?
When I take my Mosin to the range I usually shoot 20 rounds. Last night I shot 40. The barrel was so hot near the end that I got a serious burn on one of my fingers when I touched it. It took at least 15 minutes for the rifle to cool down to the point where I felt safe putting it in the case. Last n...

Re: Type 53 from 1953
Have fun with her. I have a 53 that was made in March 1955. Happens to be my birth date too...thought it would be pretty cool to have a gun made the same time I was. I really enjoy shooting it.

Re: What would be a good at the range barrel wash?
If I'm understanding some of you correctly, the barrel can be damaged by the corrosive ammo in a very short time...like hours? I can't imagine the soldiers that actually used these guns doing a cleaning after each shooting...or did they? I've been spraying Krud Kutter down my barrel, running a brush...

Re: What would be a good at the range barrel wash?
OK but I was hoping for some kind of "solution" that would work good enough to keep from having to do a cleaning after every time. I shoot the gun about twice a week and usually 20 rounds each time. Maybe that's not enough to worry about a thorough cleaning each time???

What would be a good at the range barrel wash?
I frequently shoot corrosive surplus ammo through my Chinese 53. I was thinking about "mixing up a brew" of something I could just spray down my barrel to rinse it out instead of doing a full cleaning every time. Would a mixture of water and ammonia be good? If so, how much water to ammoni...

Re: Accuracy of Mosin Chinese 53
Is the 60 the ID # for the Lugansk factory? Does that mean there are many (at least 59) other ammo factories? My spam can is from '82. I'd be curious to know how far back some military surplus 7.62 some of you have found? Being new to this...does the ammo in a spam can ever reach an age that it woul...

Re: Accuracy of Mosin Chinese 53
I had read about the bayonet being extended was how they were sighted so that's how I shoot it...plus you have to admit the gun just looks cooler WITH the bayonet out! I know ammo can make a difference too. I was shooting from a surplus tin of 440 rounds and have no idea what kind or how old it is....

Re: Accuracy of Mosin Chinese 53
In defense of the range owners...I know that some of their steel targets HAVE been damaged and those things aren't cheap. I believe the damage was due more to idiot shooters more so than inaccurate guns. Even though they make it clear that the steel targets are not to be shot at with steel ammo I th...

Accuracy of Mosin Chinese 53
Hello Mosin Fans, I am pretty new to Mosin Nagants and new to the forum. I picked up a Chinese 53 and, after a LOT of cleaning over the past few weeks, I am really enjoying taking her to the range. When I first got it I was having some severe issues with the bolt sticking, but the last few times out...

Re: Can you identify this 7.62x54 ammo
Winchester 7.62x54 in a lead core/soft point is going for $30 per box of 20 at several of my area shops.
I did find a box of PPU lead core for $20, but that's the cheapest I've been able to find for indoor range shooting.

Re: Can you identify this 7.62x54 ammo
Thanks for the reply guys. The video made it pretty clear how to get it open. Looking forward to getting to shoot my gun (a 1955 Chinese 53) outside. I've taken it to my indoor range a couple of times (shooting lead), but my outdoor range doesn't open until the end of the month. I'm having a blast (...
