I like that no two laminate stocks look quite the same...like a fingerprint pattern, wide color range as well. I have two and both are dark red.

Good score! Looks like you scored an older handguard with brass ends as well! My first Mosin is a 1947 M44 as well. It does not apear to have ever been issued. I just ordered one Black Friday and did Ok. 1943 Tula ex-sniper with a nice trigger and great bore. Plan to clean it this weekend.

Gotta love the laminates. No two look alike to me. Nice clear stamps on the barrel! But I would call it a medium shellac. Just about the right color for my tastes.
