Very nice, with the shop's markup, you have to wonder who they got it from and for how much...more than one guy uninformed. Good for you!

Re: Avoiding Scraping Stock/Hand guard during Ring Removal
I found it hard to get bands off too, although I usually only do this on the first breakdown to remove cosmoline and check for rust under the wood line. Here is what I do if I don't have a helper. Remove the cleaning rod. I pad a small C Clamp and use it to depress the springs fully (rear first). Th...

Very nice indeed! I dropped out at about $200 on that one. It spoke to me. Glad you got it to go with the bayonet!

Re: Another T-53? - Somebody Stop Me!!
Very nice! I know what you mean...I share your enthusiasm. After cleaning and reselling I am up "4 keepers", 2 all matching. Trying to get one good example from each year (WHY?).... I think your floor plate is 1953. I AM STILL LOOKING FOR A NICE 1953.9! These things are so much fun to shoo...

Re: Got a Type-53
Nice  This is the lowest serial number on Jan. 1954 date T53 I have ever seen :) That really is a nice '54. Seems like a bunch of 1954s have been showing up. Here is a lower number. Just got this one two days ago. Not cleaned yet. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z29/artemuswdw/CAM01259...

Re: What's Your Best Purchase Of 2013?
I started the year with ZERO MN rifles. Once I discovered the rich history and relative affordability of these war relics I was hooked. Plus they are really fun to shoot. Have a baker's dozen now. With help from this board and similar ones I have enjoyed hours of research and met interesting folks. ...

Re: 1947 Izhevsk M44
Good score! Looks like you scored an older handguard with brass ends as well! My first Mosin is a 1947 M44 as well. It does not apear to have ever been issued. Very low production numbers that year I believe. Definitely keep that one. http://i194.photobucket.com/albums/z29/artemuswdw/DSCN4382small.j...

Re: Recent Purchase 39 Tula in Laminate stock
Gotta love the laminates. No two look alike to me. Nice clear stamps on the barrel! But I would call it a medium shellac. Just about the right color for my tastes.

Re: Refurb but Pre-war '26 Tula
Thanks everyone! It's one of those Mosins that "speaks to you". Though most of the burl is on the left side, the right side is nicer than my other Mosins as well. If it wasn't for the stock repair near the muzzle I might have guessed it was a replacement, never issued stock. But I don't th...
