Re: When did Remington "go bad"?

Perhaps it's just internet rhetoric I've been hearing in regards to Remington. So far, all my Remingtons have been fine.

When did Remington "go bad"?

I've heard a lot of Remington bashing lately. Approximately what date did Remington's quality control take a nose-dive? I have four Remington 870s. The only problem I've had is receiver rust. Other than that, they have been flawless. I'm wondering if mine were built prior to the Remington meltdown I...

Thanks JYD. I know you're a long-time "Mossberg guy" and was interested in your feedback.

Re: Garage sale find - Mossberg 500 parts

Hey guys, I have an update and a question. My "Frankenstien" Mossberg 500 is my favorite shotgun. It's now equipped with Hogue furniture, an 18" barrel and a sling. By chance, I discovered the previous owner had replaced the plastic safety with a nice aluminum one. I'm now considering...

Nice shotgun. You Canadians get all the cool shotgun stuff! :Drool1:

Too bad about your hand. Sounds like something a 10 year old boy would do on a dare! :chuckles:

Re: KK Shotgun

Depends, how much of your face are you willing to risk? A shotgun of that age is a black powder shooter, they were not built to handle the pressures of modern smokeless powder and might even have laminated steel, otherwise known as Damascus twist barrel. Wallhanger it. Agreed. A buddy just inherite...

Re: Stoopid Gander Mtn.

Last time I went to Gander Mountain I was looking at handguns. The prices were 20-30 percent higher than online prices - even when you factored in for sales tax, shipping and FFL fees. Looks like they're getting back to reality.

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical conversions

I think my Mossberg 500 is becoming my favorite shotgun, starting to edge out my 870s. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for a 590. I don't actually NEED one, but they're really cool. :)

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical conversions

I checked out the Mossberg "Chainsaw". In my opinion, it was an overpriced tacticool crap. That chainsaw pump mechanism was ridiculous: completely impractical and an inherently flawed design.

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical conversions

One of my Remington 870s is set up like that. It may not be as accurate as one with a stock, but it sure is easy to maneuver and hide. Besides, if you ever change your mind, it's a 5-minute job to swap out parts. Someone once called shotguns "the Mister Potato Head for adults." :)

Re: Meeting a Veteran

I was stationed in West Germany from 87-90. Twice I ran into old German WWII vets who were both captured and sent to various prison camps in the U.S. Both vets said the Americans treated them very well and they actually didn't want to go back to Germany. A few years ago, when I managed a big box sto...

Re: I'm Jones'n for a Beretta M9

I just made the plunge. I found a deal at Bud's Guns: brand new Beretta 92FS Police Special with 3 x 15 round mags. $427 + $5 insurance + $25 FFL = $457. The police special is basically a 92FS that may or may not have a police badge stamped on it. The 92FS is nearly identical to the M9. Can't wait f...

Re: M1 Garand people come in have a gripe...

Must be a different crowd over there now. In the past everybody wanted the original wood stocks, not the new ones. Nobody liked the orangish-colored birch stock which they all called the "pumpkin stock". I own five M1 Garands. My very first one was one of the orangish "pumpkin" s...

Re: Christmas Present for my Daughter

He gave it to her so she just let him take it back to try and make things easier. Now there will never be a problem like that in the future. Good decision. Far better to lose a pistol in order to "take out the trash." Besides, now her new gun will always and forever be known as "The ...

Re: Christmas Present for my Daughter

I can't think of a better situation: - a daughter who likes firearms - a proud Dad who gives her daughter a firearm Reminds me of my Dad. He passed away in 2007. My wife and my Dad were very close and she was more torn up over his passing than I was. We ended up getting his old .38 Smith and Wesson ...

Re: First Smith & Wesson Revolver

A little over a month ago I was looking for a light weight 2" snub nosed revolver. Just about everybody told me either buy the LCR or an OLDER Smith, not a new one. I ended up getting the LCR (.38) as my carry gun. I still use a Smith snub nose (.357) for my "car gun." If I were in th...

Re: armed guard class

Interesting, A 3. I have the Beretta PX4 Storm Compact, and it's grip and mechanisms on the rear of the slide match the full size frame. That may work better for you. What works better for me is not trying to rack the slide like a full-size pistol! In any event, it's her gun and she loves it...

Re: armed guard class

I love it when the "old guy" outshoots the young bucks. Way to support the team! :) Interesting that you sold your compact and bought a full-size. I've toyed with the idea of getting a compact 9mm, but I really like the full-sized versions even though they're a little clunkier. My wife bou...

Re: Mossberg 500 Tactical conversions

Use a chop-saw and an extended magazine. All you need. Just remember 17 and 63/64ths inch will get you ten years. And, make sure you measure from the correct point! The Feds don't play. I wouldn't trust myself with a chop saw, a hack saw or a measuring tape, for that matter!. I'd be so concerned ab...
