Re: Finally got my flea market Factory 26 SKS to the range.
Second trip to the range this week. Cleaned some crusty grease from under the rear sight leaf and cleaned and lubricated the trigger assembly. Now I'm down to being consistently 5" high at 100 yds. Couple more trips and I'll be ready to adjust the sights. Hate to admit how many times in my miss...

Re: Finally got my flea market Factory 26 SKS to the range.
Thanks, I have one of the front sight tools that was in a box of stuff, I almost said junk, I bought at a flea market awhile back. I'm looking forward to playing with this rifle some more.

Re: Finally got my flea market Factory 26 SKS to the range.
I'm going to wait on adjusting the sights until I find what ammo this rifle likes best. The sportsmans club I normally shoot at has ranges going out to 400 yds and I'm looking forward to trying the rifle out at 200. 400 would be very optimistic but I'm sure I'll at least try the 16" gongs at th...

Finally got my flea market Factory 26 SKS to the range.
Went through one box of Wolf ammo just to get the feel for the rifle and to check function. After that at 100 yds I could consistently keep my shots in a 6" paper plate with the forend resting on my shooting bag. Windage was good but I had to put one plate on top of the other and use the bottom...

Re: Spencer Carbine
A friend was a gun dealer in Columbus O. from the late 30's into the mid 80's and specialized in odd items. He once showed me a Spencer he had build in the early 1950's, one of a dozen or so he had built from parts from a Government surplus auction. Apparently they were making room for the WW2 surpl...

Re: Flea Market Norinco SKS
Great find at the pawn shop. I have ammo on hand but with my schedule will probably not get to the range for a couple weeks. Some SKS shoot better than others but I've only run into two that I couldn't get to function. One was a late Chinese export parts gun and the other was a Yugo that someone had...

Re: Flea Market Norinco SKS
Did find a bayonet, it was in a box of parts which included the blade bayonet and hardware, two slings and a sight adjustment tool. $65 was more than I hoped to pay for the lot but based on what I see on the online auctions not too bad a price. Odd thing was the seller kept referring to the bayonet ...

Re: Flea Market Norinco SKS
You may be correct about Norinco being the exporter. In my opinion the stock is not rough, missing some finish in a few spots but no gouges or splits. Also does not appear to have been refinished, at least not in this century.

Re: Flea Market Norinco SKS
Thanks, I'm in no hurry and frankly enjoy the looking as much as the finding. The bayonet is not critical to the function after all. took the rifle down and cleaned it, gobs of grease in the bore and everywhere. Serial numbers match everywhere EXCEPT the bolt and I think that is a typo. Last 5 numbe...

Flea Market Norinco SKS
Stopped by a small flea market this morning and among other things found a Norinco SKS laying on a vendors table. This SKS has the darkish red stock rather than the bright orange or jungle wood stock I used to see pretty regularly. Metal is clean and all visible numbers match, it's missing the bayon...

Re: Webley Mk IV, 38/300
For those still interested the Mk IV is mechanically cleaned and went to the range today. Function was fine though point of impact was 3" low at the modest 25' I was shooting. I was shooting 38 S&W not the military spec 38/200 and I expect the lighter bullet resulted in low impact. Exterior...

Do I read that correctly that it will be a $400 single shot 22?

Re: Webley Mk IV, 38/300
I've been letting a little Kroil soak in. Sometimes I've had success by toughing the tip of a soldering iron to the threads to help work the oil in.steelbuttplate wrote:Try getting the rust out of the threaded side of the grip screw. Then maybe a light tap with a blunt punch the size of the screw end.

Re: Webley Mk IV, 38/300
Casing is the same with 38 S&W and 38/200, difference is the projectile. Most 38 S&W are loaded with 146gn +/- bullets. The original 38/200 was similar to a 38 Super Police load Winchester offered back before WW2. Though the surplus stuff I have is actually the later 176 gn loading. I've alw...

Re: Webley Mk IV, 38/300
Mk VI.jpg Mk IV.jpg OK, here is the Mk IV I am working on and a Mk VI that you see just as I received it from him. What you don't see is that there is a 45 ACP round corroded into tone of the chambers. The sad thing is that in the case containing the Mk VI were two 1911s in even worse shape. One st...

Re: CZ-82
I've had one for a while and yes, it's probably a little bulkier than 9x18 should be. However I've never had any function issues with any factory ammo or my reloads. My wife carried it as her CCW pistol for a while. I loaned it to a nephew for a couple years because he was working his way through co...

Re: Webley Mk IV, 38/300
I'll take some pictures and post them. I found a pair of cylinder bracket screws but still looking for a grip screw. Patiently putting a drop of Kroil on the threads every few days hoping I can get the grips off without damaging the screw. I was able to coax the other screws out and give it a gentle...

Webley Mk IV, 38/300
Last month a friend brought me a box of pistols to look at. His late father had made a good side living buying storage units at auction and some items he didn't want to fool with, firearms and jewelry being two. So the firearms got placed in a closet and the jewelry in 5 gallon plastic buckets. Of t...

Re: Decent ammo for my 91/30?
I tell them that, treat all ammo from the former commie countries as corrosive no matter what it said on the box, I trust none of them. That shit looks pretty much like the military surplus stuff, mix them up by accident some day and don't clean for salts and then you have a rusty piece of shit ins...
