Captured M91 rifles don't show up very often with Civil Guard numbers. I've seen a couple "in the wild" but I'd venture to say it's a bit uncommon.
Either way - it looks like a nice rifle. Congrats!

It gets a yes vote from me. Wonderful to see one in detail here.

Re: M24 Review ......Post your M24's here!!
Here's a SIG straight barrel with a three digit serial number (370). No dot in front of the number, but a small S instead. Matching bolt with receiver marked with a random number on the back. Anyone have an earlier number - maybe a two digit serial? We'd love to see it.

Looks nice - lots of interesting Balkan traits.
I'm curious about the M crown mark. I looked on 7.62x54.net, but didn't see one. Anyone know what specific country/King that represents?

Looks like a German capture mark on the stock as a bonus. Nice find!

Re: New gun
Serial numbers at that time were kind of like license plate numbers - two letters followed by (usually) up to four numerals. The pattern of progression is unknown so what you have may not be a low number after all. I believe the 91/59's retain their original serial numbers - not positive though. I a...

Now that we can see it being stamped above the import serial numbers, I'd think it's highly suspicious!

I don't think I've seen an M39 with a repair to the "pistol grip" area like that. Thanks for sharing.

SIG Lotta
A couple months ago I got a chance to buy this Finnish Lotta from a long time collector. It's a SIG stepped barrel (s/n 60xx) and appears to be in original inventory condition. It's seen some use, but the bore is pretty clean and sharp with no counter-bore! The bolt is unmarked and no other numbers ...

Re: help with markings
The square with a line through it is a typical refurb mark. The "SD" above the serial number is an import addition - some imports have that translation of cyrillic letters into latin equivalents. The cyrillic "GR" is an unidentified Soviet marking seen on this page in photos 7B a...

Re: Romanian M44: Wrong Stock
Romanian mosins are an "anything goes" mix of salvaged pieces/parts, but they sure did a good job with the M91 spliced stocks they made! They're almost always good quality, complex splices. Just thought I'd stick up for the poor Romanians here.

Re: New to me 91/24
That's the first time I saw the army stamp on top of the civil guard mark - interesting! I see it has the "christmas tree" mark, but it doesn't look like the barrel has been cut - anyone know what that may mean...? It's the second time I've seen the mark on an apparent full barrel. You got...

Re: Just Another Non-Refurb M-44?
I've always read that the УЧ was a Russian mark, but that's all I know of it. My friend has a 91/30 with the mark crudely stamped with what appears to be a screwdriver or chisel! Your clear marking on a trials rifle is a gem of a find in my opinion.

Re: Marking question for the masses.
Unsure what that is, but I recall something about a circled cyrillic "D" being a Serbian aid mark. I could be wrong on that, but it would only apply to an older WWI era rifle.

Re: "R" after date on Barrel shank
The Russian "r" translates to "g" in English. I read somewhere that this is an abbreviation for God (бо г ) as in "year of our lord". But, as Longcolt indicated, the meaning is "year". I'll try and verify that with a friend of mine from Ukraine. Your M-39 is ...
