Re: Question on cleaning...
I am a BP shooter as well. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but BP fouling and the salts left behind from surplus ammo cause rust by absorbing moisture from the air. It's the resulting water that really does the damage. So in theory, if the weather isn't too humid there might be less of a problem. ...

Re: Progressively harder cocking
Maybe it's not the rifle...... Seriously, sometimes the angle at which the bolt is engaging the receiver will cause it to drag like that; an extreme example of this is the Remington 710. (POS!) Normally I love Remington guns, but the 710 is a dog, IMHO. Pulling upward or downward while moving...

Re: Forced Matched
I'm new, but if I read everything right there are some years that the prefix isn't on all the parts. But the font should always match up. Take the bolt out and hold it next to the receiver, you can see the difference in the way the numbers are shaped.

How do they come off without removing the front sight?dolk wrote:Only on a M44. Not the rest of them.Juice wrote:And my shellac is rough already.
Ugh I just realized to get the barrel bands off I would have to hammer out the front site then out it back on.

Re: Progressively harder cocking
(Just got Internet back from the storm this week) The action isn't nearly as bad as other people made it sound, until it locks up totally and will not budge. It will be a few weeks till I can get some cans of ammo, had to buy some "wife insurance". I will report how the brake in goes whene...

Re: QUICKHELP! It looks like my m39 is starting to rust
My H&R gets rusty a lot because I use it so much and don't really clean it up often. Take a "rough" rag, or paper towel even, oil it good and rub. You might be surprised how much rust will come off that way.

Temporary stocks
It seems to me that the stock of my Mosin might be the only thing I could damage in the field, being that its really old wood. That ATI stock is ugly as sin, and I hate plastic stocks. But it's kinda cheap. Is it truly drop in? Could I put it on during deer season and then take it off with no issues...

Re: Progressively harder cocking
The OP does not have sticky bolt. He said he had not fired it. Put grease on the cocking cam sufaces. This will help to smooth things out. Not to sound like an idiot, but what do the cocking cams look like? I might be the only gun owner/hunter/shooter that has never owned a bolt action before. Do y...

Re: Progressively harder cocking
The extractor seems to be on right, on the back of the bolt head it's so tight and flush you can barely see that it's a separate part. What would I look for in extractor channel? What would cause that to work and then stop?

Re: Progressively harder cocking
Also, if I cock it by pulling the rear of the bolt back by hand it will move fine too.
