Re: personal testimonial

Haven't tried Gunslick, but I've heard really good things about it.

I've used Wipe Out foam, but I'll keep an eye out for Gunslick and give it a try next time!

Re: Expanding Barrel Band Clamps?

After a Google search, one website has a guy using K-Y personal lubricant for safely removing barrel bands. It's water-based instead of petroleum, so I don't see any problems trying it.

Problem is, do I use the "his" or "her" kind... Sorry, had to go there.

Re: Expanding Barrel Band Clamps?

OIL!! I oil up the surface of the stock before. If they are still tight you can slightly spread them at the bottom by placing somthing in the center and skewing slightly, Becareful not to break. My pole M44 is so tight it barley came off or went back on but it didn't tear up the stock when i oiled ...

Re: Expanding Barrel Band Clamps?

I am resigned to live with a slight flaking of the shellac around the barrel bands. I think it's inevitable. I've just learned to perform full take downs of my Mosin stock sparingly, but have wondered if there's any type of "safe" lubricant to allow the bands to move without rubbing the fi...

Re: My First Mosin

I have shot several 800 round cases of Czech silvertip and no "casing got fused in the throat" on in the chamber for that matter. (The cartridge case does not touch the throat so could not fuse there.) Also the lacquer is a very thin layer. Hmmm...I think chamber would be the correct term...

Re: What was the alkaline solution in the cleaning bottles?

I live in a one bedroom apartment and don't have a lot of room to clean a large rifle. I do have a balcony but I really don't want a lot of people knowing what I have in my apartment. I use the tube so I can have an area to work in and so I can wash the dirt down the drain. The plan is to use the h...

Re: My First Mosin

Just don't get the Czech surplus ammo with the thick lacquer on the casing.

My shooting buddy uses it in his NDM-86 and he told me to try it the first time I took my Mosin shooting. 3 rounds through a hot barrel and the casing got fused in the throat--not fun. :big shock:

Re: My First Mosin

The rifling looks pretty good. Well done--I think it will do you fine!

I love the M44s--the perfect survival rifle to hunt with: you can shoot your prey, skewer it, and cook it with the fireball from the muzzle.

Let us know how it shoots!!

Re: 200 yards

I see u said something about making the front post higher. Mine is stock. Just seams right on. I do shoot high on stock sights at 100 yds, as do many MN rifles--early Soviet battlefield doctrine called for the rifles to be sighted at about 300 meters. Some owners find that they are dead-on the way ...

Re: 200 yards

:vcool: Nice shooting and good looking rifles! I'll be working on getting mine sighted in at 100 yards on the front sight using some 12 ga. wire sheathing. The first time I took it out, the range was crowded and I didn't have a benchrest to use to get an accurate sighting (shooting about 12" hi...

Re: Nagant Porn, 42 Plain Jane Izhevsk, 25 Pics . . .

What is bore foam? I have another two of these 91/30s to prep now. There are several bore cleaning foams available on the market. Wipe out foam and Break Free BCF are several popular brands. They come with built-in applicators or straws (like the WD40 straw) that you insert into the bore and the pr...

Re: Mosin Nagant oil

Good point about the salts in urine. I have seen some of those accounts, as well. The urine as a cleaner was a speculative statement by someone who I suppose incorrectly assumed that the ammonia content was a reactive cleaning agent for the corrosive priming material and not understanding that the m...

Re: Mosin Nagant oil

According to some forum threads I've read, the oil used was similar to a light grade engine oil. The cleaning solution is apparently still a matter of debate. I have read speculative posts stating soldiers using urine as a cleaner--seems reasonable, but I'm not sure as to the veracity of those state...
