I can't say she likes the brass deflector, as it bounces the cases back to her, lol.redspoon wrote:Nice little shooting range, I like the brass deflector on the bench.

Re: My ugly duckling
What I am curious about most is the bore, and how the bore will affect accuracy.

Tic Tac Toe season
Now that it is warming up, it is getting into Tic Tac Toe season. Can't wait to get to the range. Pics from last season where I "lost" every time and had to buy the ice cream.

Re: My ugly duckling
The bore is kinda rough, no visible rust, but there is some pitting. Wondering how it will shoot. I bought some 1971 blue and yellow box Soviet target ammo last year of Gunbroker to see how it would shoot. Magazine machining is the roughest I have seen in all my Mosins as well.

Re: My ugly duckling
The metal is so rough. The barrel machining is so rough, it literally feels like if you run your fingernail down it, it feels like a machine screw.

My ugly duckling
I bought this 1943 Tula PU 91/30 sniper a few years ago. Never took it out of the box or shot it. It is a Molot, IO import from AIM Surplus. The numbers on the gun match, the scope, I guess, is renumbered, but stamped. I was stoked to get it, but it is by far the ugliest Mosin I own. It is like they...

Re: My M1
Forgot to update. Shot about 200 rds of ZQ1 with no problem. Unlike my other rifles it flings the cases 12 O'clock ahead. My Vepr shoots them off at about 2 O'clock into another zip code. Not used to seeing cases rain right in front.

Re: Bolt Lube????????
I took my bolt apart, heated it up a bit after cleaning it, sprayed some Ballistol all over it. Then I let it sit for a few days, and wiped the excess off. My hope is, since I treated the bore as well, it will protect it, and ease in cleaning when I use my Ballistol/water mix. So far so good.

Re: New 12G enroute, Tristar G2 Viper
Update; Forgot all about this. I LOVE this shotgun. It made me look really good at my first time shooting clays. I was actually doing almost as well as many guys who have shot a while. It swings easy, fairly light, has a decent fiber optic sight, and cycles fast and smooth. It's not a bad looking sh...

New 12G enroute, Tristar G2 Viper
So, I have a few pumps for home defense/ general purpose use, but I am joining a new club next month and want to get into shooting clays more often. I was trying to buy a 22", 7+1 shot Mossberg 930 JM Pro but had problems with the vendor, and the model I wanted was sold out most everywhere else...

Re: Gun show find....Mossberg 500
Wow, nice looking 500. You're going to be Simo Hayha to the turkey world. I love Mossberg 500s. Reliable, super easy to work on. I liked my 870, but a Joe Shmo at home can almost rebuild an entire 500 with basic tools. I have kinda sorta done it twice. I am digging that camo finish.

Congrats on the American Mosin. I have a NEW, and it's one of my favorite Mosins. Don't sell it. Keep it, shoot it, then maybe hand it down to one of you kiddlings.

Well, after these incidents in the news, and they say the assailants had about 500 rounds in their arsenal, I look over hoping my wife has no idea how much ammo I have.

Re: Looking at an M39
Congrats!! MY old warhorse has hardly any blueing left either. It is by far my favorite bolt gun I have. The rifling is worn, but if I am concerned about accurate shooting I use heavier grain bullets, like 182gr and up, with slightly longer bullets. I cleaned up the crown today with a brass tool and...

Re: RIP 7.62x54mmR
I too collect more than I shoot and when I came across 7.62x54r that was different in someway I purchased it. Here is some of it from last year, since then I have purchased a few more crates but of the common stuff. http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n196/lee-online/ammo/crates004_zps08664c9f.jpg T...

My unbolted action 54r
So, been doing some stuff here over the holiday break. On the Vepr 7.62x54r, I intalled a heat shield under the handguard, installed a budget scope for now, and some dynamat on the mount to deaden some recoil to the scope, hopefully eventually getting a POSP scope. Installing a short picatinny rail ...

My M1
Well, I am a Mosin and AK guy, but decided I needed a M1 Garand, at least 1. Treid to do some trades for a .30-06 one with some ammo, but deals fell thru. I ended up getting a shortened "Tanker" Garand in 308. Haven't shot it yet, but the action seems smooth with no binding. I have about 1...
