M28 30 Un-numbered bolt question

I just picked up a Finnish Model 28 30. Rifle’s serial is in the 41,0000 range. The bolt is a New England Westinghouse bolt. Has the E on top of the bolt body. But there are no numbers on the bolt at all. Did the Finns use bolts in the M28 30 that were not numbered to the barrel? Rifle is in pretty ...

Re: MAS 36- why so little interest?

Go to Widner's Reloading and Shooting Supply. Click on ammunition , rifle, and then 7.5x54 French. They have brand new loaded 139 grain non-corrosive brass case reloadable Privi-Partizan, 20 rounds for $13.95 /box.

Re: MAS 36- why so little interest?

Reloading brass can be purchased from Graff and Sons. It's Privi-Partisan, $60.00/100, but it's good brass. Lee makes dies, and any .308 caliber bullet will work. The French Army as well as the Soviet Army in 1941 bled out Hitler's young warriors in 1940 and 1941, respectively, and at the beginning ...

Re: Finally moved into my gun safe - my No. 4 Mk. 2

I have a question for anyone that knows the answer. I have two of these UF 55s plus some Enfields from WW I and WW II. Are the chambers in these UF 55s tighter than the wartime models? I want to reload and I"ve heard that the post-war chambers are tighter. I haven't reloaded for the .303 yet, a...

I tried. I'm on the road and used my cell phone camera. Message said the file was too large. At 65, i hardly know how to use this cell, much less file sizes. Thanks.

Re: Front sight Problem

I used the beer can shim under the front sight. There was so much play and space that it would slide in from either side and you could see plenty of daylight. The sight is firm, I.e. No wobble now. But there still is day light under the front of the sight, if you understand what I mean. The dovetail...

Front sight Problem

Purchased a 91/30. Evidently I didn't see it, but when I pulled it out of the box, I noticed that the front sight was bent toward the rear. It was bent in the base. I gently tapped it with a plastic hammer, and it came loose in the base. It wobbles front rear and slides out easily. Are there sights ...

Re: Lowest Serial Number on 91/30 ?

I think I have the rifle referred to as number 1. It is a refurbed Tula in a pre-war refurbed stock. The date on the the barrel is 1931. It is marked OM1. There is the number 1 on bolt, floor plate , and buttplate. I have no idea what OM stands for. Probably was the first rifle for that organization...

Re: First Mosins

I was a first year teacher, Junior High, Birmingham, Alabama in 1975. It was a 91/30, and I paid thirty bucks for it. That was a lot when your base pay was just $9,600 for the whole year. Had a bore as dark as midnight. Sadly, I don't have it anymore. Stock was worn thin, but I wanted that Mosin so ...

You're right. He doesn't deserve to even handle this respected piece of history. He seems like a plastic guy anyway.

Re: Muzzle gauge

Yea, I thoroughly agree. I looked up the thread from last December, and I agree about the aging of the parkerizing. Our local DCM rifle club had a buddy at Anniston Depot in the 1990s. I called him and asked him if he would pick out a nice Garand for me. He sent my $165.00 rebuilt Garand with a 1965...

Muzzle gauge

I went to a shop to look at several refurbs today. I have two questions. Two of the rifle barrels and receivers were parkerized. The floor plates were blued. Was this part of the refurbishment process? Second is the guy there had a gauge that he put into the muzzle. He said it would tell how much th...

Re: Storing Rifles

For the last thirty years, I have given the bore a thin coat of R.I.G, rust inhibiting grease, a commercial grease you can get most anywhere. You need to swab it out before shooting, but I have clean and shot rifles after twenty years of storage, and there was not a trace of anything but clean bore....

He'll probably come down. I know 43 is common, but it is really nice otherwise. I guess I don't care, I feel like I am preserving history. Could have been used at Kursk. Thanks for the input!

Flaking Shellac, Buy One?

A local dealer has seven 91/30 s in his racks. Price is $180.00 each. I have one picked out that seems to have a very good bore. But there is a problem. All of the rifles are refurbs, but the shellac finished is literally raised and is flaking off all of these rifles. I handled all of them and my ha...

I have a CAI import 1943 Izhevsk that does not have the arsenal mark. I also guess it was scrubbed or someone goofed or maybe some anti-communist during refurb?

Re: Is this a correct MO stock?

Does anyone know of a good source for stocks? Since MOs came with whatever stocks were available, I think I will just put a refurbed stock on it.
