Re: How much ammo is enough?
I'm sorry to say all my guns and ammo were lost in a freak boating accident in the middle of Long Island Sound. I thought I had a firm grip on them, but... Unfortunately, these things can happen when you're a Connecticut resident.

Re: Newest Member of the Family - 1980 Yugo SKS
VERY VERY nice. i also have a yugo 1978. why do you have the 2 dot sight at the rear and i have a peep sight on my 59/66A1 ? Not really sure. That 2-dot actually folds down (as does the front) when you don't need the night sights. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can answer about sight o...

Picked this up from Samco in "new condition," and definitely not disappointed! I know many of you bought these great rifles when they were less than $100, but even at the new prices these rifles are a bargain. http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn106/messeleven/IMG_6889.jpg http://i302.pho...

You can also use a chisel and hammer...that goes pretty quickly. Just be sure you won't need that chisel for fine woodworking any time soon.Driveshaft wrote:Btw, I didn't get a can opener with my surplus ammo, so how the heck do I open it?

Re: How old are we.
First computer I ever used in prep school had a card reader and a big red button in the middle of the console that activated a fire extinguisher. Room had to be virtually refrigerated. IBM donated it to the school. First "portable" was an Atari that my company (an advertising agency) bough...

Better Hurry While They're Still Cheap!
You guys may have already read this, but it's unfortunate news from Shotgun News Magazine. 4 million guns will be destroyed, including Mosins.

Forced Matching
What was the purpose behind forced matching the parts with an electropencil? Were the Russians that picky about matching parts for each rifle during the refurbishing process?

Re: Recoil Pads
I use this one. Makes the felt recoil insignificant, and the neoprene cover is a perfect size for the Mosin. Any time you feel like getting a bruise or two, just slip it off!

Re: type of cartridge
I can't add much either. I'm still shooting what's left out of the first tin of Russian I bought 12 years ago. Mind you I only had 1 Mosin Nagant up until about 6 months ago and when I bought that first one I lived in California and didn't get out to shoot it much. I'm down to the last 75 rounds or...

Re: Elevation Adjustment
So here's ballistics 101 - the sights are set up so that the barrel's actually pointing up a bit, and if it's set to, say, 200 yards it will exactly hit where the sights are pointing at on the way back down. That means there's also some point where it's dead on on the way up! So if you're shooting ...

Re: Elevation Adjustment
Yes And No. It depends on the rifle. They are in 100s of meters. :D Holy cow! So there really is no need make an elevation adjustment on most rifle ranges (at least not at my own club.) I can't see the target much past 300 yards, so how on earth were these Russians able to sight these guns over a 1...

Elevation Adjustment
While shooting the Mosin for the first time this weekend, I didn't really make any serious attempts at changing the rear sight. Kept it in the lowest position and shot pretty accurately at 50 yards. But I'm curious, about how many yards (or meters I guess) do each one of the stops represent? Would t...

Re: 1934 Tula Hex 91/30
Thanks! Do you think that top forestock piece was replaced when they were refurbishing or earlier? I know it's tough to tell and there's no markings, but was this a common practice using a lighter wood?desdem12 wrote:Nice lookin Russian red head there.
