McCarbo spring kit

Has anyone put the McCarbo springs on their Mosin to lighten up the trigger pull...if so did it help any. I have an M38 I would actually like to hunt with and don't want to modify it any as it's all original but was curious if the spring kit would help my trigger.

What powders are you using for reloading for Mosins

I have some 150 gr sierra and 180 grain and have a M38 and chicom carbine. What powders have you used for the short barreled mosins that give good accuracy. Not concerned about shooting super long range would just like something that gives me good velocity and accuracy out to a max of 500 yards.

Sierra 150 and 180 grain bullet question

I have the opportunity to pick up some Sierra 150 grain (#2300) and some Sierra 180 grain (#2310) in .311 diameter for a good price. Has anyone reloaded these for the M38 or Type 53 and how do they shoot? Just wondering if the twist rate is different on the carbines than it is on the long barreled M...

Re: Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit

Sounds like you have a logical and sound plan to shoot and hunt with this rifle and I wish you luck! I wasn't meaning to personally attack you but just making a general statement about what some people try and do with their Mosins and for no reason other than to prop up their egos and abilities to ...

Re: Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit

"in the name of your ego popping comment of look what I shot with something that wasn't meant to shoot that good" I can assure you and you would agree if you knew me that this statement is so far from being true that it's laughable. I never had an ego and at my age if I did have one I woul...

Smith Sights Pillar bedding kit

Anyone have any experience with this and did it help create a more accurate Mosin. I have an M38 that I would like to use for hunting and would like to get it as accurate as possible without changing the historical nature and value of the rifle. I think reloading will probably do the trick but just ...

Grease or oil?

What do you use to lube the bolt, grease or oil? In my neck of the woods it usually never gets below 0 farenheit and during the summer we can get up to 105. Was thinking some kind of grease that is good to about -20 or so. Thoughts?

Replace bolt spring?

I have a couple of Mosins from WWII and was wondering if anyone has replaced the bolt springs. I read somewhere you can buy "lighter" bolt springs that will make the action easier to eject and load as well as making it smoother. Old wives tale or truth?

Re: Couple of gun show pumps.

Love the 16 gauges. I've owned an 1100 in 16 gauge since grandpa bought it for me in '67. I conservatively estimate it's killed over 1,000 ducks, mostly mallards and never had a problem taking down ducks with it. Mostly got used in the lead shot days. It's still my favorite gun to shoot. Managed to ...

J.B. Bore Cleaning Compound

Is it safe to use the JB Bore Compound on Mosin's and what kind of success or changes has it made to your rifle if you used it. They claim it will help tighten up the groupings if you clean your barrel out until there is no crud coming out of it anymore.

Re: Hearing Protection

I was in the safety industry for a good 15 years or so. I would recommend looking at a safety supply company near you and going see what they have. I would also look into any online catalogs. I can tell you that the markup at stores and retail outlets is outrageous on hearing protection. For example...

Re: 7.62 x 39 154 Grain SP

Not too long ago I was watching a show where a guy went fishing in Russia. In some area where they have those huge Russian bears. I watched and then noticed his guide carried an SKS for protection. I got to thinking, man if these Russian guides are in an area where a grizzly would look small and the...

Re: Accurizing kits

As long as they do not alter anything permanently. Like glass kits do. That destroys the rifle. If you are looking for accuracy, try buying a rifle that is newer and more modern. Sometimes doing this to a Mosin is like putting lipstick on a pig. Dolk Already have a butt load of those other rifles a...

Accurizing kits

I've seen MN "accurizing kits" from some of the sellers on here and wanted to know if anyone has any experience on using them on carbines. I have a 1943 M38 and forget the year but a chicom Type 53 ( I love the short versions hence the short wife). Just wondering if there is any value in p...

Re: Does putting a scout scope on a mosin change the historical value

For me it defeats the entire purpose of owning one of these rifles. I own them to experience what they were like to historically shoot. To experience a little of what the soldiers did. They didn't have scout scopes at Kursk. I totally get that but you don't have my aging eyes. It's not possible for...
