Re: Mosin Heresy

That's too bad, I still like my collection despite not shooting much anymore. I never bought them to shoot anyway, I collected them for the history, Plenty of time for them to be sold off once I kick off. Until that day I can still enjoy the story's they have to tell.

Re: Couple of M1 Carbines

A friend of mine in West Virginia was offering over two grand and kept being outbid over and over again. I thought a hundred fifty bucks was a lot for one back in '90. Inland, Saginaw, Underwood, two of Inland and Underwood one of the Inlands being the M1A1 paratrooper model. At todays prices these ...

Re: MN Rifles

I hope so, grand each would be nice, some would go for much more. I remember how some people thought hoarding up $55 Mosins was just foolish 25 years ago. Some of us grabbed hundreds of them :)

Re: Four SKS Rifles

Biggest piece of shit I ever ended up with was this abortion of an SKS that had been shortened to "para" size and had the AK mag butchered into it. First round fired the mag fell out and bullseyed my foot. Second round did the same, there was no third round. I got that one as part of an en...

Re: Are Mosin front-sights durable?

The front sight was used as anchor point for the bramit silencer as well. It would have been a very bad idea if the front sights weren't strong enough. I haven't seen, or heard about a broken one as well... Oh I have, but that one was the result of someone hitting it with a hammer trying to loosen ...

Re: Help needed

The cut made so the rear sight clears the barrel? That's common because the sight does tend to hit there on most of these M91's.

Re: M91/30 from bass pro

Your rifle would have been refurbished in the Soviet Union sometime after WW2 and stored away as one in a crate of 20 similar rifles. No attempt was made to keep the same parts with a rifle and everything but the barrel serial number was force matched after the process. Sometimes they were neat abou...

Re: Help needed

The rings are correct for a stock of that age, the parts mix is normal for pretty much any Mosin that old as they have been refurbished or repaired many times after multiple wars. Nice example, and it still has it's cleaning rod and markings are not defaced.

As I was typing this yesterday evening the aftershock hit. I didn't feel or hear anything for that one, didn't even know about it until later.

northeast quake

Anybody else feel that tiny quake we had this morning here in the northeastern states? Happened in Jersey, felt all over NYS. The big shop door shook like it does when a big wind gust hits it followed by a long rumble. I heard it, saw the door shake, but otherwise didn't feel any ground movement. 4....

Re: Interest in new production Mosin receivers?

I guess I’m not understanding what a commercial sporter is. I’m thinking a sporterized military rifle. A commercial sporter is a brand new rifle from Winchester, Remington, Ruger, SAKO, Marlin, Henry and so on. It contains no surplus parts and you pay full retail for it at the gun shop. A sporteriz...

Re: I f up.

They are hard to install if you put them in upside down, but they are not meant to go on and off easily either. If that was the case they could rattle loose in combat like the original M1891's were prone to do. The Finns fixed the 1891's by putting a small screw, and sometimes pins to hold the band ...

Re: Interest in new production Mosin receivers?

My Marlin 336's and 1895 are old commercial, not military designs as is my Savage 110, but none of them contain recycled parts. I don't know of any commercial sporter sold in the US today that gets away with using surplus military parts, or recycled sporter parts for that matter. Such a thing would ...

Re: Interest in new production Mosin receivers?

I am all about the history, if I wanted a brand new rifle it would be a commercial sporter. Commercial sporters have only the history the owner puts into it, same for a new production Mosin. In any case I have several unissued Mosins from various countries, they are my least interesting Mosins, litt...

Re: Hex receiver date

Pull the action from the stock, flip it over and look at the rear tang of the receiver where the action screw passes through it. There should be an arsenal stamp and the last two or three numbers of the date the receiver was produced.

Re: Newbies second post with pic’s

Refurbished in this case would mean it went through the Soviets post WW2 refurbishment process before it was stored away in Ukraine. This hoard was unleashed on the US market in the 1990's and early 2000's sometimes selling as cheap as $55 for a basic 91/30 with bayonet, sling, ammo pouch, oil bottl...

They did some very nice work on these timepieces, attention paid to even the parts not often seen. A mechanical watch of this quality today would be what? Ten grand?  :vcool:
