Re: New Members, Make your first post here!
Hello glad to be here, I have a 1953 romanian M44 that I hope to get some questions answered about eventually. this is the place to get the answers! I've got 45 or so ranging from 1914 to 2021 (yes, not a typo) and I learn something each and every time I get online. Welcome and enjoy.

soooo close ...
the mailman (post person ?? ) anyway HE just dropped off a 1942 Izhvesk I bought at auction because it was going relatively cheap at $325. I thought OK - from the pics it looks like it could be at least a great parts gun. When I unboxed it and checked the info of my other 2 1942's I was amazed that ...

Re: Empty Spam Cans.....
Too many empty cans' to deal with, now they just go into the metal recycling bin. BUT - my wife uses the wooden cases for gardening, garage shelves, camping boxes. There were some Romanian cases a while ago with rope handles, hinges and a latch. I use those to store stuff at the farm.

Re: 7.62x51 versus 308 Debate
This is probably more a case of cheap Chinese surplus coming back to haunt you it's cheap for a reason after all. I've shot cheap Chinese .223 and ya wasn't a great idea as I had some bullets actually come unseated while trying to feed. Like with most things you get what you pay for there. That bein...

Re: Why the Mosin Nagant?
I inherited my father-in-law's Lee Enfield Sporter and wondered what it would have looked like in original dress. At that time I had 4 long guns, all from my youth. Shortly after getting my Cdn PAL (firearms license) I went to a gun show and saw a 43 Tula 91/30. I do sculpture and love the curve in ...

Re: Funny Moment At The Range This Morning
I'll asecond the FIREBALLS ARE AWESOME. The first time my son shot my M44 it was later in the day, not dusk but we were in deep shade. No one had shot it yet that day and the look on his face when he saw the fireball was priceless. Awe, excitement, a bit of fear .. followed by a grin that hid his ea...

Re: What is this booklet?
Without going to the vault to compare the characters, I have 5 or 6 booklets that came with some Ukraine refurbished rifles that were supposedly redone from Russian surplus for the Ukrainian civilian market. Mine were the "owner's manuals" that were to go with the rifles and your page 6 lo...

Re: 7.62x51 versus 308 Debate
Actual cartridge sizing/naming aside, not all ammo is created equal. Following the "wise advice from the internet" that its ok to use 7.62 in a commercial 308 I ordered 500 rounds of steel case Chinese surplus when I got my Savage 99 in 308. The issue with this particular 7.62 is that its ...

Ah My lack of attention to detail .. I didn't detail compare the lettering, just looked at the star with the dots vs the later Tula star device. great information - thanks.

Re: Manufacturer Stamp ID
after reading the OP, I went and checked my babies .. I had never taken note before other than the year. My 1928 has the same markings, so likely at least 22-28 Tula's with the same stamps.

Re: I hate gun auctions......
Ah, but for me the tension in the auction is all the fun. I love the pokergame rush. Its more difficult online than in person where you can actually see who you are bidding against and try to read if they are going to go beyond your budget, but there are strategies to play the online game as well. i...

Re: 1941 FINNISH M91
Depends on the venue (auction v an exchange v retail), and location. Western Canadian auctions that I'm aware of are around $1000 Cdn. Some of our US colleagues will have to comment - re impact of things such as import marks etc.

Too Cute - Cricket/Keystone Mosin
I found one of the 22lr "mosin"s by keystone online and it came in the mail on Friday. Its just TOO cute. 34 inches long (lined up butt to butt with a 91/30 it reaches to the front sling mount on the 91/30. Styling is quite realistic, rear sights are fixed but look like 91/30 sights. Comes...

Weatherby PA-08 in 20GA sitting in closet. 20GA so wife can handle it if I'm busy. light and short. Had bought an Armsan 12 GA with just the pistol grip, put one box of target loads through it and sold it - my wrists couldn't take it, even when jammed against my thigh.

As Sonny has noted (and thanks re the hint on 45ACP at Bullseye Sonny) there doesnt seem to be panic buying up here. The biggest drawback here would be shipping costs for some of the stuff coming from across the country. The usual deal I see here in AB is free shipping on orders over $300 for delive...

Re: Grocery Shopping
Maannnn I'm envious. And I thought I was doing great today when I found some 20 GA and 410 on sale at 10% off. My adventure in that buy was ... I was standing there at the locked display case, the guy was handing me what I wanted .. I said would you like to carry it to the til or come up front with ...

Re: Moderna updates
My wife and I got ours last Monday. She (65 yrs old) had a sore arm for 2 days, no other side effects. I (66 yrs old)had the same sore arm, and after about 24 hours felt crappy (run down, cranky, a bit sore). Went for a nap (ha .. 3 hour crash!) and then was fine. No underlying med conditions other ...

Re: Snake Season
We have some rattlers down near the US border, and even fewer about 200 miles north of that in the Drumheller Valley (famous for dinosaurs). In the Edmonton area there are apparently a couple of snake dens for garter snakes (they apparently gather in a big ball in the den and overwinter by crawling ...

Re: No further importation of surplus ammo to the U.S.?
Canadian supply of 7.62x54 seems still available but prices have risen steadily over the last couple years. No rumours here about a shortage, but we now see lots of Chinese stuff. I bought a number of cases of Russian 880 rds at $270 Cdn (so say US $210 ) plus shipping. Now $435+ for the same (so sa...
